Award Winning Team secures 5th place.
The Race
The Abu Dhabi Solar Challenge is a 1100km event through the desert of the UAE and city of Abu Dhabi, with qualifying on the Yas Marina Formula 1 track.
TeamArrow ran a very strong race. We finished well on the first day and then on day two with some good strategy and skilled driving we overtook the leading cars in the heavy traffic of the regional desert towns and lead the entire field home, a field that included 3 of the 4 best teams in the world and several multi-million dollar cars.
Unfortunately with 500m to go on a 325km stage Murphy’s law got us. A heat related system failure occurred and we lost about 20 minutes,time that we were unable to recover on the third day.
The team finished 5th overall in a very competitive field and received the award for “Best Mechanical Design”, our first ever international award. The awards were presented by both the President of the UAE and the Crown Prince of the UAE, in the presence of the President of Egypt and former US Vice President Al Gore.
